A modern and dramatic addition to Tulane University's architecture, the Lavin-Bernick Center (LBC) establishes a new focal point for campus life. Expansive glass exterior walls create light-filled spaces and contribute to the building's feeling of open, spacious accessibility. Wrap-around balconies offer tranquil views of the Quad, futuristic ceiling fans calmly circulate the air, and water walls murmur in the background. The building's ambiance is designed to foster a feeling of connection and community.

The LBC experiences the most of its activity and foot traffic on the first floor where dining venues, a well-stocked bookstore, and several smaller retail spaces are located. Both the James Lounge and the Nalty Commons provide comfortable studying and meeting areas. The attractive inside and outdoor dining spaces remain open even after the restaurants close for the evening.

The mezzanine lounge nestles up to the oak canopy and overlooks Pocket Park while providing plush couches and tall tables for students to use. The LBC's Garden Level below serves as the home to the offices of many university departments and student organizations as well as the new 1834 Club.

The second floor features eleven conference rooms plus an elegant, glass-enclosed ballroom for the university's most special occasions. The Kendall Cram Lecture and Performing Arts Hall, with its excellent acoustics, frequently hosts academic and cultural events.

Designed in accordance with "open building" concepts, the energy-efficient LBC contains 152,000 square feet of space—almost 40% more than the former University Center.
